Indian Railways earned revenues of Rupees 100622 crore between 1 April 2014 and 30 November 2014 on originating basis. This income stood at just Rupees 89341.26 crore in the corresponding period last year. In terms of increase, the income this year represents a growth of 12.63%.

Freight of goods accounted a large part of increased income

Of the total revenues earned by the Railways between 1 April 2014 and 30 November 2014, 67130.96 crore rupees were earned through movement of goods. Last year, Railways had earned 60144.16 crore rupees through transportation of goods. This represents a growth of 11.62%.

Carrying passengers has also become more profitable

Between 1 April 2014 and 30 November 2014, Indian Railways earned an income of 28510.24 crore rupees by carrying passengers. This income stood at 24523.71 crore rupees in the same period last year. Income through freight of passengers represents a growth of 16.26%.

Coaching services of railways also increased income

Railways earned an income of 2699.55 crore of rupees with the help of coaching in the period between 1 April 2014 and 30 November. This income stood at 2515.78 crore rupees in the same period last year. This represents an increase of 6.11%.

In the same period, railways booked 1.43% les passengers than last year.
