Bodo-militants

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his shock at the killing of more than 40 innocent people by suspected Bodo militants in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts of Assam. In a message to condemn this terror strike, the Prime Minister said, “Killing of innocent people in Sonitpur and Kokrajhar is an act of cowardice. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased. I spoke to Assam CM Shri Tarun Gogoi and Home Minister Rajnath ji. Rajnath ji will travel to Assam and take stock of the situation.’’

Militants resorted to these attacks in response to intensified search operations by security personnel

Suspected terrorists of NDFB attacked at different places of Kokrajhar and Sonitpur to kill at least 40 people in Assam yesterday. These attacks were preplanned in the manner they were carried out to give the impression that they were serial attacks. This cowardly act by the terrorists is reflective of their increasing desperation because of intensive search operations carried out by security forces in the area. Terrorists who were heavily armed entered three tribal villages and started firing indiscriminately. Prime Minister Modi Tweeted, “I spoke to Assam CM Shri Tarun Gogoi & Home Minister Rajnath ji. Rajnath ji will travel to Assam and take stock of the situation.” He is keeping a close watch on the developments and has ordered additional paramilitary forces in to the affected areas of Assam. He added that Home Minister Rajnath Singh will very soon travel to the affected areas to analyse the ground situation.

Militants are believed to belong to Songbojit faction of NDFB

According to police sources, the dastardly attacks were carried out by militants belonging to Songbijit faction of the NDFB. His faction is believed to be strongly opposed to any peace talks with the authorities. After the attacks, an indefinite curfew has been imposed in all the affected areas of these two districts of Assam. Chief Minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi has said that he has been assured all help by the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh condemned these cowardly terrorist attacks in strongest possible words. He said, “I strongly condemn the killing of tribals in Assam by NDFB militants. Killing innocent people for any cause can never be justified. The Centre is monitoring the situation in Assam and the paramilitary forces have been rushed to the spot. Spoke to Assam CM Shri Tarun Gogoi who apprised me of the situation in Kokrajhar & Sonitpur. Centre will provide all assistance to the state.”
