It was Mulayam Singh Yadav’s 75th birthday today. And the Samajwadi Party decided to celebrate it in grand style in Rampur, the constituency from where Azam Khan, powerful minister in Mulayam’s cabinet comes from. Preparations were in full swing for the last few days and Azam Khan left no stone unturned to deck up the entire Rampur city to please his political master. So extravagant was the entire decoration and so elaborate all the arrangements that it was clear to anyone that crores of Rupees have been spent in organizing this mega event.
Azam has no shame in saying that the program is funded by Taliban and Dawood
When reporters asked Azam Khan about the sources of funding of the entire program, an irate Azam said, “Taliban ne diya, Dawood ne diya. Saara Talibaan ka fund hai”. Translated into English, his answer reads, ‘The program has been funded by the Taliban and Dawood Ibrahim.’ It was clear that Aazam Khan was irritated by the repeated questions from reporters about the source of funding for such an extravagant birthday bash. He may have answered in a sarcastic tone but this answer has not only hurt the feelings of crores of people of the state but also enraged them.
Such demonstration of wealth and opulence is repulsive
Samajwadi Party claims itself to be a party of the socialites. It says that it follows the principles of Ram Manohar Lohia who was a simple man with high moral principles. If such a great man had been alive, he would have never approved the royal manner in which the samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav chose to celebrate his 75th birthday. In a state that ranks high in poverty and where farmers are committing suicide every year in high numbers, such an event makes a mockery of the poor and oppressed people.
Imported buggy for Mulayam and Akhilesh to ride
There were 200 welcome gates in the city all decorated with lights and flowers. Mulayam and his son Akhilesh arrived at the venue of celebrations. Azam had specially ordered a Victorian style buggy from London for use in today’s birthday bash. Mulayam and Akhilesh along with Azam sat in the open buggy waving hands at the crowd. A proud loking Azam told reporters that the last time Neta Ji came to Rampur, we welcomed him in a vintage car. But this time we have gone a step further and imported a Victorian buggy from London to make this occasion an unforgettable one.
Azam Khan is known for his controversial remarks in UP politics. Only yesterday he said that the Taj Mahal should be handed over to Sunni Central Waqf Board for its upkeep and administration. He added that it was a mausoleum and as such a property of the Waqf Board. Azam is a master of controversy and remains in use because of his controversial statements. He made news last year also when the entire police department of the city was pressed into service when a few of his buffaloes were missing.
