Quite frankly, I don’t have a reason to reason here. I am not reviewing the Panasonic Viera TC-L47e50 47 Inch screen TV to line up a sales pitch. Then why am I bothered to write a review? The fact that unlike other product review websites, ‘The National’ is not mired by false advertising, I like to recommend or NOT recommend stuff that’s going to help you in the long run.

Coming to this ginormous 47 inch Panasonic Viera TC television, there’s a lot to be had besides its shiny looks. It has its good moments; it has its worse moments. It is up to you to decide whether the TV is worth the hassle.

The Good Stuff about Panasonic Viera TC-L47e50 47 Inch TV:

• Panasonic did a great job on the Viera TC 47E50. As compared to the previous models, this one has a better picture quality.
• Several picture modes give way to a variety in visual details. Gaming, movies and entertainment channels are diversified.
• For its nominal price, the Smart TV technology in Panasonic Viera TC-L47e50 helps stay up-to-date with latest app installation, connectivity and etc. 

Shitty Things to Know about the 47 Inch Panasonic Smart Viera TV:

• Picture quality is “better”; remember when I said that? Of course you do. My two cents: I was expecting more from Panasonic and that too from their Viera series devices. It is certainly not the best picture quality out there. Mind it.
• Uniformity of visuals is a big issue at times. You will not notice it, but over a few weeks, the display will start showing splodges of black areas.

By the way, there are some other disadvantages to purchasing this Panasonic 47 inch screen TV set. I will be talking about them in detail. If you are a Panasonic loyalist, which I really doubt because at the moment, there are other competitors, such as; Samsung and Sony, I apologize beforehand.

It’s just that I happen to be a gamer and a small time programmer. When I see a TV set, I expect more from it because we gamers have a knack for visuals. Picture quality means a lot to me… I hope you do understand that.

Panasonic Viera TC-L47e50 Television Review from a Gamer’s Perspective:

Hands down, the reason I purchased this 47 inch TV was because of two reasons. The first one being the price factor was kind of a turn on. You get a 47 inch screen and that too within $900 price range. Secondly, beyond all other features, the IPS panel was something that clicked.

What is an IPS Panel LCD?

Yeah, in case you don’t know what an IPS panel is, let me explain it in easy terms. IPS is one of the best LCD screens available on the market. You have the regular LCD which sort of blurs whenever you are looking at the screen from a side angle.

With the IPS panel, the LCD viewing is not distorted, or it doesn’t appear to be white. To test this theory, stand at the side of a LCD TV screen or a Laptop screen. You have to be a few steps away from the device. If you are unable to see the screen clearly; possibly at a 178 degree angle, you’ve got yourself a shitty LCD. IPS panel LCDs and IPS panel LEDs are the new magic word in the industry these days. You don’t have it? Well, it’s time for you to upgrade then.

Apple monitors are IPS, HP monitors are also available in the IPS panel category – so on and so forth. Colors are always going to be more vivid and the display will be dynamic.

Moving on with the Panasonic Viera TC 47 Inch TV Review:

As a hardcore gamer, and a part time programmer, my second passion is computer screens, PLASMAs and LEDs. The first passion is of course gaming; there is no doubt over there. I still think that Plasma TV screens are more likeable because of their vividness, warmth and crisp display. People say that LEDs are the bomb but I haven’t seen a lot of LEDs with lifelike touch in them.

Picture Quality: Obviously, the picture quality is not as deep as the PLASMA TV standard. Panasonic really needs to make improvements to the Panasonic Viera TC-L47e50 line because after a while, the picture quality appears to be distorted. People have complained about Panasonic’s lame customer service.

My recommendation is that this TV set could use another upgrade. Perks, such as the THX, Pro Mode viewing and advanced display customization options for the Panasonic Viera TC series will do good. Black levels are rich, but the white levels in this TV are a little bit off balance. Overall, the display is not the worst of its kind. I have no issues with it.

Sound Quality: Again, the Panasonic Viera TC television does not have the worst sound. That being said, you should always keep in mind that televisions have a certain limit to their sound quality. If you are expecting Bose or Kenwood standard sound levels, you should really invest decent cash in an AV Receiver and a Home Theater system for TVs.

Moreover, since I am a gamer, I would strongly recommend all fellow gamers to buy a surround sound entertainment system to go along with their TV sets. Wireless speakers are a little bit expensive, so I’d say that something like Energy Take Classic 5.1 or Polk Audio 5.1 is the minimum you should consider going for.

Wi-Fi Connectivity: The Panasonic Viera TC-L47e50 is Wi-Fi ready. This Wi-Fi system is not wireless and straight out of the box, you’re gonna need a dongle for establishing an internet connection. Otherwise you will not be able to access the Smart TV features to their full potential. Besides, if you are not using Smart TV apps on any latest television, you are better off chucking your television out the window.

Build Quality: Forget about paper thin bezel because this TV certainly doesn’t come with that kind of standard. Overall, the build quality is good and it serves well as long as you are not comparing the Panasonic Viera TC-L47e50 47 inch screen TV with LG, Samsung and Sony televisions. Doing so will only set your expectations high.

Throughout my entire life, I have seen some nifty LED TVs. Despite of their $4,000 price tags, those TVs had serious backlight bleeding issues, black balancing and etc. Fortunately, in Panasonic Viera TV case, there is a glossy black bezel look to feast your eyes on.

As far as light bleeding and flash lighting is concerned, these issues are not there because of Panasonic’s Edge Lit LED technology. Some people have raised concerns but at least I haven’t seen such issues throughout my testing phase. Also, the light does not seem to pool at the corners of the screen. This is an impressive feat where I’d like to appreciate Panasonic for their hard work.

Avatar | Looking Real Smooth. Looking Real Clear:

If you really want a taste of 120Hz refresh rate, go and watch Avatar on the Panasonic Viera TC-L47e50. It looks as real as it gets. The prefect time to watch this movie would be at night; preferably a dimly lit room because that’s when this TV really shows its true colors.

The images appear to be pre-rendered animations; completely flawless and perfectly amazing. After the first 5 minutes of appreciative Ooooohsss and Ahhhss, you will be lost in the spirit of Avatar. Of course, this is not the only movie that I am recommending; pick up any Blu Ray disc and give it a shot. I watch movies on my PS3 because of its Blu Ray support – other players work fine as well.

If you have time, do watch ‘300’ on this 47 inch Panasonic Panasonic Viera TC-L47e50 TV. All the typical movie grains will be gone. Everything is going to look like a breathtaking animation. But what if you are not an animation movie fan? If you are looking for an alternative to the standard display mode on this TV, switch to the Game Mode. In this mode, this television does not render the screen for additional visual enhancement. Besides, Game Mode generally focuses more on vividness – so this is definitely something you should try for a change.

Eye Sensitivity Issues:

People with SOE and eye sensitivity problem will probably have trouble watching stuff on this TV for hours on end. To turn off the SOE mode, go to your Panasonic Viera TC-L47e50 menu. Enter Advanced Picture à Motion Picture Setting. In here, you can turn off the SOE mode.

To sum it all up, do read other customer reviews about this TV. People have complained a lot. The reason I did not bitch that much is because I didn’t want to give the impression that I hate Panasonic. However, it would be a good idea to list down your requirements and then purchase this TV. If you are looking for a cheap television, with above average quality, long lasting performance, Panasonic Viera TC-L47e50 is it.
