Don Mattrick, the executive who is in charge of the Xbox One project has confirmed that the upcoming console is meant for online gaming only. Mattrick has been talking about the Xbox One’s superiority and its true potential whenever it is connected to the internet.

The executive has denied all rumors about offline gameplay mode in Xbox One. Instead when he was asked during E3 exclusive interview on this subject, Mattrick said that the “best” alternative to Xbox One is an Xbox 360. “If you want to play offline games, then you should stick with Xbox 360.

Don Mattrick’s statement was not only blunt, but it also appears to be of extreme nature. In one of his recent interviews he quoted the example of a nuclear submarine, where no internet connection is available. Even under those circumstances, the Xbox One owners will not be able to play any games, despite of the fact that there is no possible way for them to get an internet connection going on.

People cited that the nuclear submarine example was a rare case scenario, which does not justify anything at all. As of now, Sony PS4 is not only making fun of the Xbox One’s online gaming policies, but also the unavailability of offline gaming mode. Microsoft is maintaining its stance on the DRM checks by saying that this kind of strategy was essential to ensuring a major step against pirates.

Fortunately we have a product for people who aren’t able to get some form of connectivity and it’s called Xbox 360,” says Mattrick. “If you have zero access to the internet that is an offline device.”

Don Mattrick said that while this policy was being made, the company did expect a “reasonable” degree of resistance from gamers. However, he also suggested that once you are connected to the Xbox One through an internet access, you will eventually agree to its perks.

On the same note, Microsoft is a software company. In this context, whatever antipiracy steps they’ll take, they are always going to be either plain stupid or won’t make sense to the common public. The Xbox One is no doubt a good gaming console, but in the light of this new copyright and game protection situation, I don’t know what the hell’s gonna happen.

On a side note, Xbox 360 is not the only alternative to gaming. If you want to play offline games and if you happen to be inside a nuclear submarine, you better have a Sony PS4. Rest assured, you will not be disappointed at all. You will be able to trade games with your comrades, you will be able to play 1 On 1 matches through offline mode, and you’ll be able to do tons of other things that probably wouldn’t have been possible in the absence of an internet connection.
