Shiv Sena seems to have taken a complete U-turn from its earlier stance regarding the BJP, as the Sena announced on Monday that it was ready to back any leader that the BJP puts forth for leading the State.
The party has also seemingly even toned down belligerent attitude towards the division of Maharashtra that is believed to be on BJP’s agenda.
An editorial in the party mouthpiece Saamna, said, “The people’s blessings cannot to be confined within limits. Shiv Sena will stand with absolute force and courage with whoever is given the chance to ride the chariot to take Maharashtra forward,”
After the announcement of assembly election results in Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray the Sena chief had said on behalf of his party that he will extend support to the BJP only after the assurance of united Maharashtra.
Earlier the Shiv Sena had always been against division of Maharashtra for carving out a new state of Vidarbha. However, the BJP government is in the favour of the division and the formation of the new State.
The change in position by Sena is the result of and response to Senior BJP leader Vinod Tawde’s statement that he gave on Sunday, that the BJP did want an association with the Sena, but minus any stipulation.
The Shiv Sena has been nursing frustration in the party which has been kept on hold by the BJP after the declaration of election results. Since the BJP has decided to hold a meeting on Tuesday to choose the chief ministerial candidate, the Sena wants to make the best use of every opportunity to woo the BJP leadership up until then.
However, the editorial piece reiterated the party’s stand on united Maharashtra, but in a subtle tone. “Maharashtra should not divide itself over the differences of castes, sub-castes and region. It should remain united. At some point of time, the BJP’s Chief Minister will have to work for the united state, keeping the political position aside,” maintained the editorial.
It also said, “Maharashtra has kept its pride intact since Chhatrapati Shivaji’s time. It would be great if new rulers too follow the same path.”
The editorial also recounted the names of various contenders within the BJP for the CM’s post and said that the final decision regarding who will make it to the position was to be made by the BJP President Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “The BJP won more seats because of Modi and Shah,” it said.
Further, making a claim that the Shiv Sena never discriminated between Hindus on the basis of region, the article pointed towards the possibility that certain community voted only for a particular party. “However BJP’s win is better than the win of the Congress and the NCP.
The write-up also said that various news items had tried to spread false news to deprecate the Sena. “Do not taste our patience. Your joy of doing such things will not last longer,” it said.
