Almost a week after the launch of the iPad, Apple came back with cocktails and the news about releasing the latest Operating System for the iPhone. Also known as OS 4.0, the software is due for release in the coming summer. However, the iPad users will have to wait till fall 2010 for the upgraded OS.

While Steve Jobs clearly said that the new OS 4.0 will consist of over 100 updates, there’s no way we can list them all down. So let’s just take a look at few of them (from whatever we’ve gathered through reliable resources).

Multitasking:

  • We heard a lot about multitasking in OS 4.0 for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Right now, the operating system itself is in Beta phase so not a lot can be said about to what extent “multitasking” is going to be convenient. And to what degree, resources will be consumed. Let’s say for instance you have a couple of programs running and within an hour you battery reaches 50%. Would that look nice to you?

Enterprise Level Features:

From enterprise perspective, new security features of the iPhone will be introduced. Such as;

  • SSL Certificates
  • SSL and VPN Solutions
  • Encryption of E-Mails

Revamped Mail:

  • Apple is going to retouch the E-mail inboxing process by allowing users to switch between inboxes. And that too, at a very high speed and it’d save time and energy. In addition, you will be able to open file attachments (which just came in with e-mails).

iAd:

  • And how can I forget one of my favorite and most highlighted Multimedia Ad related service for the iPhone, iPod Touch and the iPad. Apple is catering to outside companies by letting them place their Ads in the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch – at a low rate. As a result, you will be dealing with a revolutionized concept of Mobile Ads.

Bluetooth Keyboard Support:

  • Since the launch of the iPhone, people have been complaining about its keyboard, especially the ones with stubby fingers! Now for one and for all, Apple has announced the release of a Bluetooth keyboard for the iPhone and iPod touch.

Don’t worry; you won’t be the laughing stock of the office because this keyboard is collapsible and very much portable with respect to size and shape.
