Symantec Official Company Logo - Google ImagesI have been following Erin Ward for a long time now. In case you don’t know who the guy is, he is an SEO expert in the industry. Of course, there are others, such as Aaron Wall and rest of the professionals, but Erin is good too – at least in his own way.

In one of his interviews, he once said, “One guy’s black hat maybe other guy’s white hat.” But who cares, right? It’s not relevant logically but the quote holds true to its meaning on a bigger scale. These days, traditional security companies are losing the battle against hardcore hackers and malicious code writers.

According to experts at Symantec, there are tons of cyber threats out there that are too much for the traditional automated systems to check. Despite of Symantec’s 2,895,802 virus signatures (as of the stats from over 2 years ago), the company still admits that it wasn’t able to do justice. It’s because there are too many viruses out there and each year, almost 240 million new viruses get spread in the online world.

Symantec also released a report that encompasses the 50 riskiest areas of America that are prone to cyber security issues. Further down the road, the report says that more than 120 million new malicious scripts are identified by bigger companies, which leaves no room for smaller ones to detect them and report them in the first place.

Mr. Tan Yuh Woei – Symantec’s country manager said that other predicted digital security issues hold a potential threat to IT infrastructure as well. He said that unlike Symantec, there are not a lot of companies out there that solely rely on identifying these virus signatures.

Most of the identification and prevention process lies in the automated genre. Tan said that on an average scale, one in 450 Web Security Service blocks relate to viruses from social networking websites.
