Stuxnet Virus | Made in US of A LogoFew years ago, I wrote an article about the Stuxnet virus, at a shitty underpaying tech website. Back then, it was just another low paying gig, and I wasn’t really concerned with Stuxnet’s impact, or who made it exactly. Somehow, the subject did cling somewhere in my memory attic.

After all this while, last night, when I was busy looking for something to write about, Stuxnet happened!

I had to search and find out more about this thing. During my few hours of research phase, I found out that William Shelton: U.S. Air Force General is overly concerned about Stuxnet’s prospects these days. As a matter of fact, he issued a word of warning yesterday; saying that Iran’s cyber security team and its strength is gaining power by each passing moment.

The Stuxnet virus, otherwise also known as the Stuxnet Worm, is believed to be of the U.S. origin. Specifically designed to cause industrial level IT setups to collapse and malfunction, this contagious worm was released in Iran in year 2010. Its main objective was to help the U.S. authorities gain control of the Iranian Nuclear Power Plant: Natanz’s computers.

It was a hit; Stuxnet did affect Natanz but Iran’s cyber security experts retorted by implementing smarter solutions. Other than controlling Natanz, Stuxnet was also later on deployed at various nuclear facilities in the country. In their attempt to seize control of the Iran’s Nuclear power, both the U.S. and Israel wanted to abate the “hostile” unforeseen consequences of WMDs being in the hands of a Muslim country.

The head of the U.S. Air Force Space Command, General Shelton is one of the individuals who oversee the department’s cyber operations. He was cautions and did not reveal a lot of information about escalating concerns regarding Iran’s Nuclear Power Plants. However, he did impose stress on the threat posed by Iran’s possession of mass destruction weapons.

“The Iranian situation is difficult to talk about. It’s clear that the Natanz situation generated reaction by them. They are going to be a force to be reckoned with, with the potential capabilities that they will develop over the years and the potential threat that will represent to the United States.”

The U.S. cyber security officials have assigned teams, with thousands of employees, to take care of its internet platforms of sensitive nature. The General, alongside, like minded individuals of political influence, are adamant on spending more of our tax payer dollars on the country’s cyber operations.
