$400,000 Reported Stolen from Bank of America
A series of account holders have had their savings vanished over 48 hours in Burlington – Wash. At the moment, the exact amount of stolen cash has not been tallied, but it is estimated that it will be somewhere around $400,000.
Residents and workers in Burlington were notified by bank authorities to check in on their account status. As it appears, a security breach recently occurred in a government account that was being used to pay workers and local employees in a town 65 miles away from Seattle.
The cash was reported stolen when the East Coast bank monitored a large number of fund transfer that appeared “suspicious”. City workers, who were being paid from the government account, have been contacted by the authorities concerning account status. Workers have been duly notified about the “technical error”, so that they can contact their relevant agencies for further legal and monitory proceedings.
According to Bryan Harrison, the town administrator, a $400,000 theft is not a small matter. “Any time that more than $400,000 actually gets transferred to our out of a Burlington account, there is a possibility that this is something suspicious. There can’t be a joke involved.”
Bank of America has frozen the city account until further notification. They are not aware of the full extent of this incident as of yet. Already, FBI has been brought in to investigate the matter as a top priority. If those cyber thieves intend to stay under the grid, they better have a state-of-the-art system to cover their tracks – Otherwise, they will be brought to justice for stealing from a common man.
What do you think about the state of security in banks? Did you ever have a theft or something similar happen at your bank? Let us know.
