It Will Take More than an Innovative Idea to Beat Apple
When the iPad one was released, over 2 million units were sold in a matter time. These sales were stretched over a few months. Seeing to the device’s success, competitors decided to jump right into the sack. I am talking about low grade iPad remakes and all the Chinese shit that’s sold in 3rd world countries.

Last month, I was looking at a remodeled version of the iPhone. However, this one was known as “The HiPhone”, which I seriously doubt if it had high performance levels against the real deal. Anyhow, the HiPhone sucked. It had the look and feel of the original iPhone but overall this cellphone had limitations. I couldn’t play games, the touch system was not that much responsive and of course, the OS was not the iOS; it was some other custom software.
These small time smartphone developers are everywhere. Heck, you can even get a “Grade A” category smartphone easily through the internet. All you have to do is type down “refurbished / Grade A” smartphones. Most expectedly, you will run into Nokia 3310, Nokia 1100 lookalikes or any other device that once used to be famous back in the days.
On the subject of mockup tablets, I wouldn’t call these companies “rivals” because tablets are not really their area of expertise. But well, that was just my opinion. Probably by now, someone must be agreeing or disagreeing with me. Anyways, ASUS showed its Eee Pad EP101TC tablet at Computex in 2010 and it pretty much looked like the revised version of the iPad.
But apart from looks, there are a couple of things that are different here and some of them are most common, such as; Operating System of the Tablet, no co-ordination/ connection with Apple in whatsoever manner and no connection to the iTunes store. But do you think it eliminates the competition or gives those non Apple developers an edge?
As far as ASUS is concerned, Eee Pad EP101TC and some other models are aimed at the laptop community as well. Loaded with a 12 inch screen, Intel Core 2/3 Duo processor and Windows 7 OS, these tablets are more of a PC rather than an iPad lookalike.
Furthermore, we have MSI and LG down the line that had to display their own tablets. LG’s UX10 was released a long time ago. The company was expecting a head turning response from users, but it didn’t go as planned. Nowadays an average tablet houses features, such as; Windows 7 OS, with Webcam, HDMI output and some essential hardware wizardry. Whereas MSI is one of those other companies that is on to creating some secret prototypes. Don’t worry, these prototypes have not been revealed yet. If I hear something, I will let you know through this website.
In the end, Apple is clearly the market leader and we all know it. The other tablets will run for a while, but it will take something awesome to knockout Apple off the track. I don’t think that’s ever going to happen. Apple has established itself as a brand. Even if they release a good for nothing iDevice, people are just going to buy it regardless of price, performance or visual layout factors.
