HP’s software side of the business has never fared too well against current market competitors. The situation went from bad to worse under the regime of last CEO. However, this new guy – Leo Apotheker is dead serious on morphing the software game for the company. He wants to bring a big change and for that purpose, the recently appointed CEO called in a press conference last Monday.

Apotheker said that he’d like to see the company notching up on its revenue charts. To him, it’s about doubling or tripling the existing annual earnings. HP might have to go for different business and acquisition propositions if it wants to score big time. The company is primarily focused on the Business Intelligence sector of the industry.

A Forrester Research spokesperson said, “B.I. is like a well-cooked sandwich, except for the middle portion. They’ve got the hardware, the innovative brains but they don’t actually have a reliable software platform.”

Leo Apotheker believes that HP is going to acquire a major brand in established pure play B.I. there is a strong possibility that HP will be able to manufacture some really nice products as a result of the potential amalgamation of its software and B.I’s hardware platforms.

The CEO is also focusing on acquiring Informatica and Kobielus, both of them are data integration vendors of the latest kind. The company definitely needs to pursue bigger business opportunities through acquisitions and lower level mergers. Otherwise it’d remain in a pickle for a very-very long time.
