Graphs, charts, infographics, stock photography, the type of images which can be used in a blog post are abundant. But which kind of images generate maximum social share and get most traffic?
Here is a list of advantages for each kind of image.
Bloggers usually use random images while using stock photography. This is not beneficial. Though finding the tight images can be a tiresome work but it is worth your time. It is important to find relevant images as those blogs which use applicable images, on an average, gain 152 tweets and 80 plus Facebook likes.
To describe a product, screenshots work perfectly. Though the blogs using screenshots might not get as many shares as the blogs with stock photography but while explaining a product or service, there is nothing better than them.
Screenshots get 46 Facebook likes and 119 tweets on an average.
These images are time consuming and need great skills but are shared much more frequently. The best example is The Oatmeal, a blog that only uses hand-drawn images and people read these posts like crazy as they associate and crave the kind of images available on the Oatmeal.
It seems Facebook prefers hand-drawn images (489 likes) much more than Twitter does (318 tweets).
To present data and give an analytic information, there is nothing much more helpful than graphs and charts. They can prove your point in a very specific and detailed manner. From a social sharing perspective, they come after Infographics and hand-drawn images. They are ranked 4th in the world of social sharing.
They have received the highest number of trackbacks, i.e., 258% more trackbacks than blogs with other kind of images. 165 tweets and 93 Facebook likes is what they receive on an average.
They generate a lot of social share as they are fancy to look at and easy to understand. They give a great deal of idea without much effort. It helps greatly with traffic and generates a lot of backlinks.
On an average, Infographics receive 276 and 262, tweets and Facebook likes respectively.
These images generate 50 plus tweets and 10 plus Facebook likes.
They are an inferior version of stock photography images. The quality of images are much poorer. They are available for free. But is it worthy to risk the traffic for some free images?
There is nothing better than animated graphics when it comes to making your post viral. It is more time consuming than hand-drawn images as they are animated as well. They gain the highest social share.
Very few blogs incorporate animated graphics as they are difficult to generate. But the initial hard work pays off when you see your blog reaching every nook and corner. 551 tweets and 680 Facebook likes is what you get your blog while using animated graphics.
If your blogs are not shared on your expected level then it is advised that you change the kind of images used in your posts. Go for hand-drawn images or animated graphics. If you cannot dedicate that kind of time, then try charts, infographics or screenshots, but definitely stay away from royalty free images.
Every image type has its own advantage. Choose according your blog post and witness a sudden increase in tweets and Facebook likes.
