Senior BJP leaders have reportedly convinced the Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Devendra Fadnavis at Wankhede stadium today. Fadnavis will become the first Chief Minister from BJP in Maharashtra.
After much fuming and fretting regarding its part in the new Government in Maharashtra which will swear-in today in the iconic stadium in what is being reported to a be ‘lavish ceremony’, Thackeray has now taken a U-turn from his previous stand of staying away from the ceremony.
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and BJP president Amit Shah were among the leaders who persuaded the Sena chief to mark his presence at the event which will be attended by famous celebrities and important figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
It was pretty evident earlier that even though the Sena got exasperated, it still held the hopes of re-joining the BJP alliance to become part of the ruling government. But it still remains unclear whether it would accept the terms that the BJP would place before it for its inclusion in the government.
On Friday, Sena attacked Congress via an editorial in its mouth-piece ‘Saamna’ for criticising the BJP for spending inordinately on the much publicised oath taking ceremony.
When all its efforts to influence the BJP to take in a content of its nominees in the government failed, the Sena decided to give the swearing-in ceremony a miss and said that the party was not being treated with due dignity.
The editorial published in the party mouthpiece Saamna said, “Some Congress leaders have criticized the amount that will be spent on this program. This is an indication of their defeated state of mind.”
Many political leaders and activists have attacked the BJP spending a huge amount of government’s money on the oath taking ceremony which will take place in South Mumbai.
Many celebrities from Bollywood, sports and industries have been invited by the party. Nitin Chandrakant Desai, a famous designer has been given the responsibility of setting up a stage for the program. A cultural program will also be held before beginning the ceremony
The write-up further said that those people who have lead the Maharashtra towards bankruptcy by indulging in corruption and scams worth thousands of crores are now pointing fingers at the expenditure of this program. It asserted, “This is ridiculous.”
It even held the former governments responsible for a debt of Rs 3.5 lakh crore against the state. It further said, that the ceremony which will take place today should be looked at as the first step to wipe out the sins carried out in the past 15 years of regime.
The editorial then extended best wishes to the Chief Minister designate, Devendra Fadanvis, and held that he must work to discontinue the drainage of money from Mumbai to other states. “Maharashtra’s identity in last 15 years was of a state of scams. This swearing in ceremony will bring a new start and therefore the program must be of great standard,” it said.
