RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat is indeed very busy these days as he multiple meetings lined up with the leading names from the fields of health care, law, culture education, and bureaucracy.
He met almost 60 top officials, from each of these fields earlier this month. The lunch meetings have been aimed at seeking the views of these officials on Hindutva and RSS, in addition to discussing with them how the government and society need to bring a change in the country by working together.
On October 12, at the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry in New Delhi, a rare communication with the RSS sarsanghchalak took place, regarding which the RSS Delhi prant sanghchalak Kulbhushan Ahuja had issued the invitation cards.
Among those who graced the lunch were Delhi University vice-chancellor Dinesh Singh, UGC chairman Ved Prakash, AIIMS director Dr M C Misra, additional solicitor general Tushar Mehta, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University vice-chancellor Anil K Tyagi, mountaineer Santosh Yadav, cardiac surgeons Dr Naresh Trehan and Dr K K Aggarwal, former AIIMS director P Venugopal, dancer Sonal Mansingh, former Uttar Pradesh DGP Prakash Singh National Council for Teacher Education chairman Santosh and retired bureaucrats.
Transcripts of Mohan Bhagwat’s controversial Dusshera speech were circulated among those present at the meeting and they were asked to present their views regarding it. While most of the guests paid absolute heed to what Bhagwat said, around a dozen got the RSS leader engrossed with their own comprehensive views on what the government was required to do.
As reported by sources who were present at the lunch meeting, Bhagwat did not promise anything and said, “Sarkar sangh ki nahin hai. Hamare swayamsevak sarkar mein hain. Aapki baat un tak ham pahuncha denge (It is not a RSS government. Our swayamsevaks are in the government. Your suggestions will be conveyed).”
He was further quoted saying, “Koi bhi badlao sirf sarkar se nahin aa sakta. Sarkar aur samaj ke sahyog se hi badlao aa sakta hai (No change can be effected by a government alone. Change is possible only if the government and society cooperate.”
When Dr Aggarwal was contacted by the media to comment on the development, he said that among the suggestions made by him at the meeting were, elimination of diseases, reduction in time taken for hospitalisation and health sector reform measures like maximising the use of the health budget, etc.
“We also discussed how health care can be improved by strengthening our ancient values,” he added.
Similarly, clarifying that the meeting was in perusal of welfare and putting forth his ideas of bringing massive reforms in the health sector, Dr Trehan said, “provide health care to each and every citizen… there was no politics, no religion. It was just an exchange of views”.
“RSS is one-of-its-kind organisation, totally dedicated to India, cultural inputs should become part of education” Sonal Mansingh said.
She added further, “Until the HRD Ministry was created, separating culture from education, it was an inclusive, holistic system. Young generations were not deprived of important aspects and dimensions of Indian ethos.”
Sources reveal that the AIIMS director suggested encouraging the private sector to extend more help and to work towards health care, so that the public sector’s burden regarding the same can be reduced.
Ved Prakash, the UGC chairman, reportedly called for implementing reports that have been submitted by various commissions on education so far.
When asked to comment by media, Santosh Yadav and Dinesh Singh refused to comment. But sources reveal that Dinesh Singh, who had fought and lost a battle with HRD Minister Smriti Irani on the 4-year undergraduate programme, looked forward for incorporating more stories on heroes from across the country to be included in the textbooks.
Tushar Mehta maintained that he did attend the meeting but was ‘just listening to the views presented by others’
Kulbhushan Ahuja, who had distributed the invitations on behalf of the RSS, also refused to comment. Another office bearer of the RSS Delhi prachar vibhag (publicity wing) commented that the meeting was a “routine affair and the RSS chief usually meets such people once a year and discusses issues of national importance”.
