Price of Cooking Gas (LPG) Hiked by Rs 3 per Cylinder

After the Centre decided to raise dealers’ commission, the rates of subsidised LGP (cooking gas) were hiked by Rs. 3 per gas cylinder.

The decision taken by the government is expected to prove beneficial to around 14,000 LPG distributors across the country.

Last week, the commission that dealers earned was raised to Rs. 43.71 by the government, which amounts to a hike of Rs. 3 per 14.2-kg cylinder. Therefore, the retail selling price of the subsidised cylinder has been increased in the same proportion, said some officials.

The last time the Dealers’ commission was revised was in December 2013, at that time it was raised by Rs. 3.46 per cylinder to Rs. 40.71. As per practice, the rise in commission is passed on to the consumer end.

The increase has been brought into effect from October 23.

The cost of subsidised LPG in Delhi will now be Rs. 417 per 14.2-kg cylinder, as compared to previous cost of Rs. 414.

The cost of subsidised LPG in Mumbai will now be Rs. 452 per 14.2-kg cylinder, as compared to previous cost of Rs. 448.50.

Before December last year, the rates of cooking gas were hiked in October 2012, when the increase in dealers’ commission caused a hike from Rs. 399 per cylinder to Rs. 410.50.
The non-subsidised LPG cylinder, that a customer buys once the quota of 12 cylinders available at below-market rates is consumed, will now see a hike of Rs. 883.50 per 14.2-kg bottle from earlier Rs. 880, due to the raise in Dealers’ commission.
