Finally something solid from the guys at Microsoft gaming department: an Xbox 720 announcement will be made on May 21, 2013. Windows Blogger: Paul Thurrott has also confirmed this news alongside a recently published report from ‘The Verge’. What’s not clear at the moment is the console’s actual release date. However, it is expected that Microsoft will be showcasing the console’s power through some kind of demo or presentation.

Possible Xbox 720 Layout as Seen at GameSpot

The announcement was originally scheduled for the month of April. Microsoft was all set for revealing basic information about the console during a conference in April, but somehow the idea got delayed. Maybe they had development issues, or whatever, the event has been pushed to the next month.  Paul Thurrott wrote in his blog that Xbox 720 will require an ALWAYS ON internet connection!

What Does the “Always On” Internet Rumor Mean?

Codenamed: Durango, Xbox 720 will require an always on internet connection. This rumor has already pissed off a lot of people. Even Paul himself does not know for sure what the always on internet connection means. People bitched at him for “not being” sure about what the always on rumor means.

As a matter of fact, one of the creative directors at Microsoft got himself in an escalated argument when he told people to deal with it!!! . As far as the event regarding the console’s announcement on May 21 is concerned, it will be a small one. The Verge has already reported that Microsoft developers are not planning to go into the limelight yet. They will talk about Xbox 720, but they’ll also refrain from spilling a lot of details.

Paul Thurrott said that Xbox 720/ Durango will be very expensive. The minimum we are talking here is something between $500 – $650 for a regular model. With reference to the “always on internet connection” / subscription based edition of the next gen gaming console, you can expect to pay anywhere between $300 – $375. In both cases, that’s a lot of money that Microsoft is already asking for.

Rough Release Date for Xbox 720?

Paul Thurrott said that the earliest release date for Microsoft Xbox 720 Durango will be in the month of November. It will be a perfect time to buy the console as a Christmas gift for you friends and family members. Microsoft will be luring in a lot of customers if the console goes live in November 2013.

A spokesperson from Microsoft said, “We do not comment on rumors or speculation. We are always thinking about what is next for our platform, but we don’t have anything further to share at this time.
