A View of the North Korean Official Flickr Account AFTER It was Hacked by Anonymous

Official North Korean Flickr Account after it was Hacked by Anonymous

Anonymous strikes again. This time the hacktivist group’s target was North Korea’s official Twitter and Flickr accounts. Why would Anonymous do that? That’s a good question. The hacking group has certain demands, which were stated clearly after it ended up successfully executing its attacks against the Korean government.

North Korean Twitter feed has a number of tweets that poke fun at the country’s current state of affairs. For instance, Anonymous has expressed its concerns against Kim Jong-Un in a “flattering light”, and criticized him for threatening global piece through his influence.

Anonymous strongly condemns the North Korean possession of nuclear weapons; the group is also demanding for peaceful resolution among North and South Korean governments, and it wants the revenue to be spent on the local citizens because they are the ones who are starving right now.

Over at the North Korean official Flickr account, Anonymous has posted a number of images. One of them has the “We are Anonymous” text highlighted against a black background. Another image shows a caricature of the country’s leader: Kim Jong-Un, with a “Wanted” text above the image.

In addition to these two incidents, the hacker group has also hacked North Korean news and information website: Uriminzokkiri.Com. The last time I checked this website, it was unavailable. I don’t know about its current status. You can provide us with an update to techguy@thenational.net . Anonymous takes credit for hacking the website by making a post at PasteBin. It says the following:

We have a few guys on the ground who managed to bring the real internet into the country using a chain of long distance WiFi repeaters with proprietary frequencies, so they’re not jammed (yet). We also have access to some N.K. phone landlines which are connected to Kwangmyong through dial-ups. Last missing piece of puzzle was to interconnect the two networks, which those guys finally managed to do.

We demand:

- N.K. government to stop making nukes and nuke-threats

- Kim Jong-un to resign

- it’s time to install a free direct democracy in North Korea

- uncensored internet access for all the citizens!

North Korean citizens, alongside the rest of the world have mixed views concerning these cyber-attacks. Some people are supportive of Anonymous, while others, mainly government officials, are condemning this act. North and South Korea are currently in a “State of War”, as declared by the N.K officials. The country is threatening to launch nuclear and weapons of mass destruction until further intimation.
