Time for Nokia to Wake Up and Smell Coffee Beans
You guys remember Nokia, right? Oh, it was that cellphone company that was once thought of as an undisputed champ in the industry. I don’t mean to offend Nokia fans by expressing the company related achievements in past tense, but that’s how things are going on right now. Nokia is something that once used to be famous like the oh-so-phenomenal Netscape Navigator, and the classic 90’s blowhard AOL.
I’m beginning to think that Nokia is facing the doldrums of a system, which might fall apart anytime soon. Long time ago, Nokia Launched MeeGo; an open source platform, and a fully loaded operating system for mobile devices. MeeGo was developed through the merger of Maemo and Moblin based projects. And we did see a walking version of Maemo in the shape of Nokia N-900. It was a good smartphone, but I am thinking that there won’t be any more Maemo based projects in the market.
For a long time, Nokia has been marketing Maemo and MeeGo as its next line of upcoming products. But we haven’t seen that killer smartphone yet. As far as the N-900 and rest of the handsets that have been released so far are concerned, it could be taken as a test run.
There is still a lot of room for improvement and Nokia needs to IMPROVE. Do you know that Nokia officials smirked at Apple when the latter company launched the iPhone. Nokia officials thought that the iPhone is an absurd idea of a phone that won’t be staying for a long time in the market.
Such non serious antics have cost Nokia a lot in the past. The company is now struggling with whatever it’s left with. The current market share of Nokia is a lot less than what Apple and Android have. It’s time for Nokia to wake up and smell those much needed coffee beans.
