And people thought that it was Angry Birds: Space that accumulated the most number of downloads over 35 days. However, things changed big time when Imangi Studios released Temple Run 2; a sequel to Temple Run 1 for multiple mobile phone operating systems.

By the way, speaking of Angry Birds; Rovio’s recent release: Angry Bird – Star Wars did not fulfill the expectations of game developers as much as it was supposed to. Rovio is probably going to go back to the good ol’ drawing board to design a new game for all the Angry Birds fans out there in the World Wide Web community.

For now, Temple Run 2 is holding the record as the most downloaded game in Google PlayStore, Apple App Store and at Kindle marketplace. Imangi says that the game was downloaded more than 50 million times, which is quite a surprise for the developers at this moment. Frankly, they didn’t think that Temple Run Two would be so popular all of a sudden.

Keith Shepherd; Imangi’s co-founder says, “Temple Run has evolved into something so much bigger than us. The game has performed beyond our wildest dreams, and we are thrilled that gamers and fans have embraced Temple Run 2 in such a short period of time.”

Temple Run 2 pits the player in a run for your life fest against a mean ape in a jungle back drop. You have to leap over chasms, swing on ropes and go through the hazards, while picking up gold coins to score points. Just make sure that you don’t meet your untimely demise at the beginning of the game.

On January 17, 2013, Temple Run 2 debuted in Apple App Store for the first time. Few days later, it made its way to the Android Marketplace – and that’s when the number of downloads sky rocketed beyond the company’s wildest expectations.

Imangi is already planning to cut deals for Temple Run 2 t-shirts, official caps, posters, treading cards and board games. Looks like they are going to give Rovio a tough time over the upcoming months.
