Microsoft Surface Tablet is Considered a Slight Risk for Nokia Developers

Recently when Nokia made certain updates to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, it raised concerns against Microsoft. Apparently, Nokia thinks that Microsoft produced cellphones, Windows based devices and anything that’s linked to Nokia is going to leave a negative impact on the overall business.

Nokia against Microsoft? Is it True?

Nokia is in the middle of a turbulent partnership with Microsoft. I have already covered details of how the once cellphone industry leader went through a drastic change over the last couple of years. Nokia, in layman terms, is hanging by a fragile straw. It is true that Nokia cannot handle any more risks and financial injuries for that matter.

On the other hand, as rumors of Microsoft working on a new Surface Smartphone, Nokia representatives are worried because it’ll probably stain the two companies’ relationship. Written in italics, the initial statements of the aforementioned report highlight Nokia’s concerns as: “We may not be able to make Nokia products with Windows Phone a competitive choice for consumers unless the Windows Phone ecosystem becomes a competitive and profitable global ecosystem that achieves sufficient scale, value and attractiveness to relevant market participants.”

Additionally, Nokia’s strategic decisions are correlated to Microsoft as things are taking a big turn in near future. Microsoft is good for making leading software. The company had its ups and downs. We remember the Windows Vista fiasco, the way Microsoft has been struggling with Bing search engine; the lack of webmaster tool flexibility, and etc.

But on an overall level, software is where Microsoft excels. Nokia believes that at least the Surface cellphone decision will impact the business strategy for better or for worse. “In addition to the Surface tablet, Microsoft may broaden its strategy to sell other mobile devices under its own brand, including smartphones. Microsoft chooses to develop its own mobile devices, including smartphones, or if Microsoft otherwise develops interests that are contrary to ours.

Changing the Tide – What will happen to Nokia?

Granted that Microsoft and Nokia partnership comes to an abrupt end? What kind of impression is it going to leave on the market? A lot of problems are surrounding the Surface smartphone – i.e. if Microsoft decides to proceed with it.

Let’s say a change of allegiance is in order, who is going to pair up with Nokia? Already, one thing is for sure that Nokia will not be signing any business partnership contracts with Apple. A long time back when the first iPhone was launched, the so-called Nokia strategists thought very little of the touch style smartphone trend.

The odds have shifted now. Nokia needs a miracle to survive. What do you think?
