Microsoft Still Lagging in Touch Device Department
Years ago, Bill Gates proudly claimed that by 2010, Microsoft will be the leader in terms of smartphones and high tech gadgets. Today, it is 2013 and we are just 6 – 7 months away from year 2014; it seems like as if Microsoft hasn’t been making progress at all. The way Gates intended, things are not going that way at least

By the way, who am I kidding? Gates called it quits a long while ago. He is only there at Microsoft as a consultation member. Moving on, in an undated interview with Fox News, Gates said that Microsoft hasn’t given up on its smartphone projects.
He said that our company is following a new tagline;
- Everything, including TOUCH, is best for something and WORST for something else
Yeah, I think it is true, but sometimes I think of Microsoft as if they are acting defensively against big rivals like Apple. But then again, Microsoft does have a point because they have been considered experts in creating pen felt touch screen. Why? Because pens are more precise and even though you can get to use your finger freely, it isn’t always accurate.
This time, Microsoft decided to demonstrate things and they showed the progress of this fingertip detection mode, through a Dell laptop and special set of drivers. So now you can probably use your fingers and a felt tip pen on the same screen. This is like a 2 in 1 deal, with most of the outcome lying in your hands and according to your preferences.
Bill Gates also mentioned that our demos on new “Stylus” project are just there to demonstrate the extent of our research. We are still improving day by day and for now, you can just have an idea about the fraction of what Microsoft has been up to lately.
To me, nothing was extremely impressive to the extent that my socks would be blown off. At this rate and amidst this level of competition, Microsoft needs to step up on things and stop wasting time. Because sooner or later, someone is going to come up with something better so Microsoft needs to incorporate its ideas into something solid quickly and hit the shelves with a full frontal blow.
