Kati Tiovanen is an artist, who percepts art very differently. She likes to locate signs of beauty in normal items of daily usage. Just recently, she turned her junk into art; the move was widely appreciated and encouraged.

Kati’s colleagues have heard her saying a lot of times, “Why can’t we enjoy and just appraise the beauty and joy of common places. Why can’t we appreciate things that are around us every day?

Besides having a unique taste for art, the woman is a professor at the art department in UMKC. She has numerous exhibits to her credit, one of which is the widely recognized: Domestic Debris”. Though not yet released, the exhibit is being highly anticipated due to Tiovanen’s strong ad campaign.

Domestic Debris had an opening last time in September 2010, where the respondent said, “I have accepted and embraced the accumulation of debris into various forms of domestic environment.” Tiovanen added, “I was and still am a single mom. I didn’t have the perfect work opportunities and I had to work where I could.”

Tiovanen’s son: Tristan also created some masterpieces. Both mom and son have a strange collection to show off at the exhibit. You can expect to see balloons, cleaning supplies and houseplants. But that’s not even the half of it. Stay tuned for the expo to open up and we’ll fill you in on it, through and through.

On a side note, let this article be an inspiration for all the upcoming artists. I know you guys put in a lot of effort into your work but it wouldn’t hurt to think outside the box. There are many artists who create things way beyond the Canvas + Color concept. Look around you, be inspired, share and take time to reflect upon your work from the perspective of the viewership.
