Yesterday, I was writing a reviewing some of the old games from 2010 when my eyes strayed off to Civilization 5. Being a fan of strategy games, I looked up this particular title at YouTube and watched a couple of trailers – so far so good. I was intrigued; I had to install this thing right away.

I Wish it Didn’t Crash that Much…

However, the actual experience with the game wasn’t really something that I was expecting. Unfortunately, for me, Civilization 5 crashed and burned at several remote points without any reason. I thought my system wasn’t up to this game’s standard so I installed it on my friend’s PC. We figured out that those issues were bugs that nested their way into the game’s database during development phases.

Let’s say, you’re enjoying the Civilization 5 intro and all of a sudden, a 5009: 0x8000fff error code pops up. Isn’t that a huge downer? It usually occurs when your system is out of memory, so a temporary solution would be to clear system cache. Other than that, you can try re-installing the entire install shield but I don’t think that’s worth it.

During the game’s sequences, you’ll notice that your system often stutters, even at minimal settings. There is no viable reason for that, but try upgrading your VGA driver. I know it’s a lame suggestion but for now, that’s what the Civilization 5 support staff is giving out. Unless and until there’s a patch for the game, we’re gonna have to wait for temporary/manual solutions.

I also noticed that without the additional updates, the game crashes at my screen with a BSoD (Blue Screen of Death). This issue was checked and I found out that my on board sound card was conflicting with the game’s audio. After installing the Creative SB Live soundcard, the BSoD did not show up anymore. If you are having a similar issue, it is probably because your soundcard is conflicting with something.
