Hello there, Call of Duty fans, I hope you are all doing well. Guess what? The latest title in the Call of Duty Franchise – AKA Black Ops 2, raked in $500 Million profit within the first 24 hours of its release. Isn’t that an interesting bit of news? Of course, for the game loyalists, it is.

On a personal note, I have to say that I don’t have a lot of likeness for this game. However, I appreciate any company’s success, struggle and hard work when I see it. Activision came a long way to come to this point of recognition in the gaming industry. According to the officials, Black Ops 2 has nailed down the biggest successful launch of an entertainment title in 2012.

Over the last couple of years, the CoD series franchise has cycled between Modern Warfare and Black Ops titles. Nonetheless, both of these titles have contributed as huge revenue sources for the company’s yearly profit stream.

According to the Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, “Call of Duty has become more than a product people buy, it’s a brand that people buy into. And every November, we do more than just the launch of the game; we kick off an annual, unofficial but worldwide phenomenon called the Call of Duty season.”

“Surprise” | Black Ops 2 Official Trailer | Robert Downey Junior

The first day launch of Call of Duty Black Ops 2 is a testament to a lot of things. For instance, it shows how much people were eager to buy the game, it shows how much this title was anticipated prior to its release, and it “probably” shows the level of regard and love, which gamers have towards this title.

But being a gamer myself, I can’t agree to the entire love and regard thing. We have to play the game to be able to judge its attributes. It don’t matter if someone recommends the title to us; sometimes we gotta try and see the gameplay on our own.

When we break down the $500 million profit, we see that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was released for all platforms. Some people blindly compare this revenue to Halo 4 and other successful titles, without realizing that Halo and such other games were exclusively released for one console only. When you combine the net effect of CoD release, you will know that a lot of factors need to be taken into account.
