As a part of being the yummy breakfast table food EGGS are nutritious, rich in protein often referred to as “nature’s multivitamin”. Many people are deficient in antioxidants and powerful brain nutrients that can be compensated by eating eggs.
One whole egg contains a wide range of nutrients which include vitamins, minerals, high quality proteins, good fats etc.
It is important to note that all the important nutrients are contained in the yolk or the yellow of egg while the white contains only protein.
It is been told to be off eggs because they are full of cholesterol. But just because it contains cholesterol, it doesn’t mean that it will raise the bad cholesterol in the blood. It is in fact the liver which actually produces cholesterol and if you eat cholesterol, then your liver produces less and if you don’t it produces more of it.
Studies show that eggs actually improve the cholesterol profile as it helps in raising the good cholesterol HDL and increase the size of LDL, which should lower the risk of heart disease.
Choline which is grouped with the B-complex is an essential nutrient for human health and is needed to synthesize the neurotransmitter acetylcholine and is also a component of cell membranes. A low choline intake can led to liver, cardiovascular and neurological disorders. Studies show that a low choline intake can raise the risk of neural tube defects in pregnant women.
One large egg contains 113 mg of Choline.
Proteins are the amino acids linked together which form the main building blocks. Eggs are among the best sources of protein in the diet with all essential amino acids.
The antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin which are found in the yolk have powerful effect on eyes. They reduce the risk of macular degeneration and cataract.
