Xbox 720 Durango will run Games Directly from HDD – Always Online Internet Connection Also Confirmed
Okay, for all the Xbox 720 Durango fans which also includes me, here are two pieces of news that you’d be particularly interested in.
- The Always On Internet Connection for requirement has been confirmed
- Your next gen games will run through the Xbox 720 Durango hard drive.
What’s the big deal with Xbox 720 Durango Anti Piracy Policies?
Recently, some screenshots were released by the guys at VGleaks. I am posting them here for your reference. One of the screenshot was of the Xbox Development API Interface. According to the documentation leaked already, it says, “All games will be installed on the Xbox 720 Durango hard drive. Play from Optical Disc will not be supported.”
Every time you will need to play a game, your unique authentication key will be matched against gamer servers on the internet – at least, that seems to be the logic right now behind the “Always On” internet connection theory.
Then again, there’s ‘Digital Foundry’, another website that confirms ‘The Verge’ and ‘VGleaks’ rumors concerning the upcoming console’s monstrous hard drive. ‘Digital Foundry’ informants claim that the Xbox 720 Durango will have a minimum 500 GB hard drive already pre-installed in its hardware.
From what it looks like, the console has been built to block pre owned games. The only caveat in this information is that it is from last year. Come to think of it, when you are done installing your games on the console’s hard disk, does that mean that the actual game disc will not be needed anymore?
To counter this theory, experts think that maybe the game disc has to remain inside the console as long as you are playing it. Take it as part of the anti-piracy verification scheme that Microsoft is working on.
