Ubisoft’s UPlay Hacked – Exploiters Downloaded Game Copies for Free
Ubisoft’s UPlay portal was recently hacked by a band of Russian hackers. Technically, the attack was made possible after the attackers detected an already existing exploit; otherwise known as a case of ‘0 Day Vulnerability’.
On a side note, ‘0 Day Vulnerabilities’ exist in most of the software projects and websites these days. The best way to get rid of them is to hire an online security services company. Their pen testers and CTO’s scan the website(s) against such gaping threats, and notify webmasters concerning any possible solutions.
Moving on, the so-called “Russian” hackers were able to get free access to Ubisoft games after breaking through UPlay, which is the company’s game launcher application. The exploit was able to trick UPlay into believing that the particular users already had a copy of the game, hence making the full version available to them without any additional costs and DRM signatures.
Apparently, at the time of this incident, Ubisoft’s latest installment of Far Cry 3, “Blood Dragon” was available to anyone who had the exploit. As a matter of fact, a YouTube 30 minute footage was also recorded which proved that UPlay was successfully hacked. The guys at Euro Gamer already covered this story in one of their articles.
On the subject of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon 30 minute YouTube video, they posted a link at the website too. However, Ubisoft reportedly contacted Google and concerned authorities to take off that video immediately. For the record, here is an image of Blood Dragon being downloaded. The game is available through a number of torrent websites.
Grab your copies while they are still hot!
