Top 4 Security Situation Normal All Fuc*ed Up Scenarios
They like to call it SNAFUs, but the real terminology is Situation Normal All Fuc*ed Up of 2010 and onward So what’s the whole deal here? It’s a list of security mishaps that Google, Cisco, Yahoo, McAfee and major government institutes stumbled upon, in year 2010 and beyond.
By the way, these companies are famous because they’re always given top priority by hackers, exploiters and virus developers. Let’s see what the SNAFUs are all about:
- Aurora attacks on Google.
- In January 2010, Google blamed China for a breach of security in its servers. They said that the Aurora Attack incident caused Google to lose a lot of its valuable intellectual property rights related documents. The Chinese government, on the other hand, said that they’re unable to understand what Google is saying. As a result, Google had to reallocate its servers to Hong Kong and other countries.
- China ISP takes Internet for a ride.
- Probably some of you may not know this, but a Chinese ISP, known as: IDC China Telecommunication hijacked the internet by sending wrong routing data, which was later on re-transmitted by state-owned China Telecommunications. As a result, a lot of ISPs around the whole world were affected. You can pick up the last known issue of “2010 U.S. China Economic and Security Review” to have a closer look at this article.
- McAfee’s Oopsie, I made a Poopsie Confession.
- Okay this one’s a gem. McAfee released an update regarding its virus suite, which later on caused a lot of systems to go down. This so called “update” was known as the infamous McAfee DAT File 5958 that later on caused people to experience random restarts, blue screen, dumping physical memory errors, denial of services and God knows what else.
- Showtime for Cisco.
- It wasn’t the biggest data breach but oh boy, was it embarrassing or was it Uber embarrassing? Cisco, the company that wants the world to regard it as a big security company, messed up when a vendor informed them that someone illegally accessed the CiscoLive2010.Com website. a handful of important conference listings were gone but Cisco never talked about it.
