Jail Time for Casino Software Developer | StuartA software developer, Robert Stuart, is facing legal charges because of his recently created masterpiece. The guy used to develop Casino and gambling software for casinos outside of the U.S. in his defense, Robert Stuart is saying that his software were sold to companies and casinos where gambling is legal.

How did he end up facing criminal charges, then? As it turns out, Robert Stuart ended up creating a gambling software that was probably sold or used in the U.S. of A. Authorities investigating the case, have not told Stuart and his family about who used his software or where his services were put to use. For all he knows, his program aided someone recently.

In an interview with Wired magazine, Robert Stuart said, “It is overreaching where they are going after a software developer, who sells the program with a legal license. And yet, we are still being prosecuted on how it is being used.” Yes, it is true that whenever Stuart was hired by overseas companies or casinos to program something, he would go to the concerned authorities to fetch a valid license.

But we all know how the justice system works in the United States. Bad people walk free with so much as a slap on their wrist, while good people have to suffer. Robert Stuart also said that this recent incident in his life is scaring other programmers as well. What is the level of knowledge needed to successfully distribute and sell a software these days?

This is perhaps the biggest question of year 2013. Good luck Robert Stuart, I hope they don’t send you behind bars. Probably it wasn’t your fault. The investigating authorities will have to prove that Stuart or his employees were aware at the time of “selling” the program to people who have illegally used it in the U.S.
