Sex is better than Facebook – Psychologists Favor Physical Intimacy over Social Media
Apparently, psychologists from the University of Canterbury – New Zealand think that the fundamental elements of life, which make us really happy, are getting into someone else’s pants or panties for that matter. On the contrary, Facebook is not that interesting anymore because it is the exact opposite of sex – it makes people unhappy…
I have no idea how these guys connected or compared Facebook with sex but that’s how things are going to be with shrinks. The Canterbury Psychologists set out to discover what really makes us unhappy and happy. One happily named individual: Carsten Grimm started the research by texting people three times a day!
Maybe he got their cellphone numbers from the University HR department or he had his own happy source, but Mr. Carsten happily stated that the response rate to his text messages was high. “I texted people three times a day over a week and the response rate was amazing”, said the psychologist.
Of course, whatever the case was, the people who received this guy’s text messages, probably knew that he would be texting them. Otherwise, it would have been a lot weirder getting text messages in the middle of the night or at random timings.
Where’s the Conclusive Evidence?
Yeah, the evidence part, I am coming to it. The conclusions are vibrant.
- First Activity to Make People Happy is Sex
- Second Activity to Make People Happy is Alcohol Consumption
- Third Activity to Make People Happy is Volunteering
Meh… I am not that much into volunteering for things. However, Carsten had a top 10 list. It goes all the way down to listening to music, watching movies, gaming and hobbies – the stuff that makes people happy. I am guessing that the text messages went on something like this:
Carsten at 2:00 AM : Hey what’s up?
Respondent: I’m having sex man! Eff off…
Carsten: Okay, we appreciate your cooperation J
Now coming to the miserable activities list, the 2nd most popular activity which made people feel unhappy was using Facebook. Yes, despite of its popularity on the internet, Facebook is not that interesting to the common public.
Carsten Grimm says, “This is a fascinating area of study and one I am really excited to be a part of. Hopefully as we learn more about what contributes to a full life, we can help people increase their happiness in their daily lives.”
