New Facebook Interface to be released on March 7
If you thought that this was it to Facebook’s interface, think again. The biggest social media platform is all set to introduce an overhaul to the Facebook Newsfeed layout on March 07, 2013. The question is: Was the new layout created for end users’ visual aid, or is it just another tool to increase ad/ product conversion rates?
According to sources at Reuters, Facebook Inc. is going to “unveil a new look for the popular newsfeed” next week. Maybe the reason they are introducing a change to the newsfeed section is because of Yahoo CEO: Marissa Mayer’s recent announcement. The failing search engine is now planning to skillfully bring the infinite newsfeed strategy, apparently a move to keep user interest levels high.
Some say that Yahoo’s move to copy the infinite news feed strategy is going to be a big flop because it was already used by Facebook. This is true, but we still have to see how things are going to unravel at Yahoo over the next few weeks. For now, let’s talk about how Facebook is going to launch its newsfeed interface.
The Facebook newsfeed revamped version will be first showcased at Menlo Park, California on March 7, 2013. People are already excited about what Facebook has possibly got in store for its users. At the moment, Facebook newsfeed displays your usual photo + video stream, comments, activities from other users and the three pillars of services.
Facebook CEO: Mark Zuckerberg will likely take over the stage on March 07, 2013 for a keynote speech about the company’s latest changes. After March 07, the new newsfeed interface will go live through an OTA strategy. You will not feel any difference in your account. Just expect a random day when you will be feasting your eyes on something completely different and hopefully likeable.
For the record, during the last few years, Facebook has not been appreciated by users for making deliberate changes. In fact, if I recall correctly, many of my friends were not in favor of Facebook Timeline feature. What really pissed off a huge user percentage during such events is the fact that Facebook hardly asks for approval.
It would have been better if Facebook developed a mode where it would ask the user for implementing irreversible changes after each major update. Let’s say, you log in to your account after March 07. In this scenario, ideally, Facebook should prompt you for a “preview” of the latest newsfeed GUI. If you are okay with it, you can proceed to applying it; otherwise you can possibly stick with the old interface.
But we all know that something like this is not going to happen in a million years. Facebook is a money oriented company. They will do whatever seems fit to the investors and boards of directors. By the way, speaking of money and Facebook in the same sentence, the company is world’s number one social network. Recent shares went up nearly 2 percent, scoring an average of $27.77 as of last Friday stats.
