Is Twitter Trying to Copy Instagram?
Instagram is a popular application; there’s no denying to it. The way this thing renders your ugly mugshots into perfectly photo-shopped celeb like photos, I have to say that this thing really does the job. Seeing to its overwhelming popularity, it appears that Twitter is in the middle of incorporating features that are kind of similar to Instagram.
Quoted directly from one of CNET articles, Twitter appears to be “mimicking some of the most visual elements of Instagram and Facebook.” Well, mimicking is good but where’s the originality in that? As you can see that Twitter has recently introduced a palette of top photos and videos in search results – all you have to do is enter the query and Twitter will display something related to it.
The entire search result on this social media platform generates a collection of videos, Tweets and photos that are synonymous to user intent. The way these photos appear at top of the resulting column of tweets, this is something that’s inherited from Instagram and Facebook. Don’t believe me? Okay how about the following screenshot? What do you see here?
We get it; Twitter has made a great attempt to feed users with more information. Since the overall user attention span is decreasing day by day. It makes sense that Twitter is trying to squish things within above-the-fold section of its internal web pages. More than ever, you will notice that search results at Twitter are lined up with rich visual details, something that once netted Instagram a 9 figure revenue.
Seems like Twitter acknowledges the power of visual trweats! Yes, there was a time when the 140 Character tweet was kind of expressive. Now it has become something different since the same 140 character tweet is sprinkled with sparkling images and visual results of their own kind! It is called driving a whole lot of value to the same tweets that once used to be… well, just a mumbo jumbo of characters.
Twitter developers are still working hard to get this project in shape. At this moment, the search results are not consistent. You can see that regardless of search terms, sometimes the resulting list of tweets, images and videos are kind of irrelevant to what the user was looking for. That being said, some terms do generate intended results, while others simply don’t.
Anyhow, don’t forget to pass hateful comments on my recent Instagram masterpiece.
