Gay Text Message Sends Him to Jail
Apparently, sending homo text messages can send you to jail for three years. It started recently with this guy, called: Mr. Jean Claude Roger, a 32 year old gay man who wanted to express his gay love for another gay person. However the judicial system in Cameroon begged to differ. Someone sniffed the text message and Jean Claude Roger is looking to spend 3 years in prison!
In Cameroon, homosexual / gay conduct is illegal. No sir, you can’t look a man in the eye thatway. Just days after Jean Claude Roger texted, “Hey I am very much in love with you”, the cops came in and arrested him on suspicion of sending homo texts to a guy. Later on, they confiscated his cellphone to confirm that the text was actually sent to another man.
While he was in prison, Jean Claude Roger told media correspondents that he felt harassed and was shocked to see the attitude of his fellow inmates towards him. “I am not sure that I can put up with the antigay attacks and harassment I underwent at the hands of fellow inmates and prison authorities on the account of my perceived and unproven sexual preferences.”
Cameroon is not the only country on the list. Other countries that detest homosexuality, are Liberia, Nigeria, Uganda and etc. Neela Ghoshal of the LGBT Rights Program says, “Usually, people are convicted on the basis of allegations or denunciations from people who have claimed to law enforcement officials that they are gay.”
Anyhow if you want to send your sympathies or regards to Jean Claude Roger, you can contact him directly via Cameroon prison authorities. I’m sure he’ll be happy to know that someone’s got his back. You can also make YouTube videos for him and let him know that he’s got a well-wisher from outside of Cameroon.
