Photography is one of the most expensive forms of art. It is even more expensive when taken as a hobby. Don’t believe me? Think of buying a Leica with titanium body, you’ll have a hard time in coughing up over a thousand Grands. Oh, and at this point, some of you will comment on photography by saying something like this;

-          Umm, I believe photography is a matter of self-expression. It doesn’t require expensive cameras

-          If a person has skills, he or she can dish out the best results through the cheapest cams

Yeah, it is sort of true but then again, good cameras are a great way of getting excellent results. On top of that, professional photography, such as photojournalism, is a result of years of training and hard work. Amateurs, or trigger happy folks, can walk up to a subject with something as little as a mobile camera to take photographs. No one, at higher echelons of photography, gives two dimes about it.

Also, there are widely misunderstood forms of photography. Take a look at the appended list to have know-how about different categories of photos;

Documentary Photography:

  • Documentary photography is an art of depicting a timeline or story through images. Family albums could be rough examples of this category. Mostly, documentary photography is devised to serve as a means to reflect historical events, and things that occurred in the past.

Action Photography:

  • We’ve all see those “caught in the action” type of photos. Some are cute, while others pose a dangerous element. For instance, what happened next when a photographer took an up close and personal shot of a shark that was approaching him with open jaws? What was the end result of that javelin throw shot? How far did the ball go, when the footballer was just about to kick it?

Macrophotography:

  • This form of photography deals with taking images at a close range, usually on the basis of a preset design. Think of close shots in mosaic or panorama form. Nowadays, different cameras come loaded with these features to help you in shooting subjects through the eye of that lens, at maximum potential.

Glamour Photography:

  • “Glamor” or “Glamour”, whatever you may call it. This special form of photography deals with beauty and eroticism. No, it is not porn. It is a mild form of nude art, bikini or swimwear shots, face close up and model photo shoots. The pictures are sexy and erotic but not usually in the Hustler or Playboy style format.

Which area of photography do you specialize in? Care to share your behind-the-camera experiences?

About Nikki Malik

Nikki Malik brags about writing a bazillion books, including several best selling novels. We haven't seen any of them though. By the way, she also talks about being a winner of virtually every award that the literary community has to offer. Nikki modestly notes that: "It's not that other writer's are less talented than I am...there are a lot of good writers out there. Bunches of 'em. It's just that I seem to write at this different--some might say higher--level than everybody else. That's really all it is."
