Black and white photography, in my personal opinion, is the best medium of expression. This simple bland combination of two colors can bring out the best gloomy emotions, which normally don’t appeal in their colored format.

Besides, it was the black and white medium that was first established during the initial days of photography. Though we have color modes today, the B&W combo is an inevitable spice of photography. Presently, black and white photos are no less than a wonder. They’re enjoying a stage of revival at a wide platform.

Models use them for their head shots. Sometimes they convert black and white into sepia format, but both of them look more or less the same in many cases. These apparently “dull” photos are more than capable of bringing out the true nature of a subject’s emotions. Tears acquire a much serious tone and smiles are regarded as emblems of eternal happiness.

Why People love Black and White Photos?

Well, for starters, they always look nice in that album of yours. Such photos have an old “oh so memorable” or “grand pa” sort of profile. From a bigger perspective, a photographer normally opts for this medium to give a stark naked and somber touch to his or her work. Normally, subjects in a black and white photo seem to be saying a hundred words. Their “silence” doesn’t seem like silence at all.

All the more, B&W photos have a way of adding romance to the air. For instance, marriage photography in black and white medium looks perfect. A colored photo always gives a different meaning and perspective, when transformed into a mere black and white combination. Also, this way of photography is a direct method of inviting the viewers to focus on the depth of a picture.

If you’re interested in refining your black and white photography skills, take a look at some of the tips that are appended below;

-          Due to the absence of color, the photographer is supposed to focus more on the balance of light and shadow. If a subject is standing under the shades, his or her photo may turn out to be darker than expected.

-          The above factor can be used as strength as well. Professionals always like to make use of the correct proportion of light and dark sources. Too light would make someone look like as he/she is standing in heaven. Too dark will only display a set of teeth and a mere shine in the subject’s corneas.

-          Take multiple shots of the same subject from different angles. This is a nice way of nailing down one perfect shot, which will comprise of the perfect combination of light and dark colors. For example; the contrast between dark trees and sun light can look a lot different in a black and white photo, as compared to the naked eye images.

Lastly, prefer using manual control based cameras. Digital cameras may have their perks and benefits for colored photography, but developers normally don’t focus on black and white medium anymore. It’d be good to switch to manual mode or a totally classic camera for this sacred adventure.
