Jail Time for Google Head of Operations | No Action Taken Against Prophet Mohammad Videos Yet
No, it’s not about Google’s stance in favor of degenerating video about the Prophet Mohammad, it is about something of similar nature though. The Brazilian Chief of Operations was sent to prison by the mutual work of Google and its trusty law enforcing allies.
As it turns out, the debacle was about taking down derogatory video clips of a nomad Brazilian politician from YouTube. Now, the interesting thing is that just recently when Google was ordered by the American government itself to take down the videos of the just released video against Prophet Mohammad from YouTube, the Search Giant refused to comply.
Based on the freedom of speech act, the anti-Islam video clips were not taken down. At most what Google did was that it banned the video from showing up in several Islamic countries. If we all get this straight, banning the video from YouTube means that it still exists in the repository.
You can always bypass YouTube video availability bans by tinkering with settings in your account. Anyhow, coming back to the Brazilian issue here, the COO is now spending his days in the slammer.
As ordered by an irritated Brazilian judge, alongside a couple of Laws that govern the country’s politics, the YouTube video debacle was more than enough to sanction a 24 hour ban of Google and YouTube. On the flip side, when people started complaining about both Google and YouTube not opening in their browsers, something had to be done immediately.
Jose Silva Coelho, Google’s Executive in question, is going to be released on account of meeting the company’s conditions. First, he has to appear in the court as the case proceeds in the next few days. Secondly, he will have to ask for pardon from Alcides Bernal, the politician who was hailed negatively in the videos.
When we say “videos”, it means that there isn’t just one video of poor Mr. Bernal. The guy thinks that Coelho is in charge of hiding several other videos with negative remarks. The only reason Bernal is a little worried is because he was shown as someone directly involved in an account of alleged money laundering.
“We are not responsible for any content that is posted on the website”, said a Google spokesperson in response to this scandal. Brazilian Court is also demanding for “Innocence of Muslims” video trailer to be taken down. But the FBI and CIA favored Google is not going to be doing such thing any time soon. Let’s see what happens next in the upcoming days.
The Brazilian courts have given a 10 day timeline to Google for the removal of both videos. If adequate measures are not taken, a fine of $5,000 per day is going to be imposed on Google.
