Best iPhone Apps for Year 2012I don’t know about the previous year, but the end of 2012 brought what Apple likes to call: “Apple App Store’s Best of 2012 Selections”. It happened last Thursday when the company’s staff members handpicked and recommended various applications to its iPad and iPhone enthusiasts.

Some of the applications among those recommendations were downright amazing. Others? Well, they sucked a little. But hey, you can’t win em’ all, can you? So I assume that it is safe to say that a group of people might not like an application, which is otherwise hailed by millions of Apple app fans all over the world.

I hear that the guys at Mashable did a countdown of top Apple applications from 2011. They said that Instagram received iPhone app of the year award for 2011, while Snapseed received the best iPad app award. Now as we move to the end of year 2012, Apple awards Action Movie FX as the top application for iPhone users.

The second award goes to Paper, one of the coolest and most downloaded applications on the iPad. Under Gaming category for the iPhone, The Room took the honors as the top downloaded application/ game. There was Rayman Jungle Run in there too but unfortunately it was awarded the top game title for iPad users.

My brother is currently hooked to Rayman Jungle Run on his Sony Xperia Arc. We played the latest Rayman title in co-op mode on PC. I was of the view that Rayman Jungle Run would be the same deal for Android market. But it was different. Apparently, our dastardly hero keeps running on his own – All we have to do is make him jump through and over different obstacles at the right time.

Furthermore, the iPad also got to claim Walking Mars to itself. For the iPhone, it was Propellerhead and Letterpress. Now you may be contemplating the order which Apple took to choose these applications. At first it doesn’t make sense. But if you look at it closely, you’ll find out that Apple chose these applications and games as per the following categories:

  • Post PC Creation
  • Hidden Gems
  • Intuitive Touch
  • Disruptive Services
  • No Apparent Reason!

So on and so forth. By the way, free applications sections were also reviewed by Apple app experts. For the year 2012, YouTube appeared to be the top application among iPhone user community. Of course it is free and comes with free updates. Apparently, the total number of Youtube application downloads surpassed that of:

  • Angry Birds
  • Instagram
  • Facebook

Speaking of Angry Birds, the iPad users reportedly displayed a massive number of downloads for Angry Birds – Space HD version.  In the end, there are tons of other iPhone and iPad applications that were not selected by snobby Apple guys. If you have any useful application in mind, do let everyone know through the comments below.
